Short Bio

OK the bio started to get a little long and is probably not of any great interest to the world in general. If you really want to know it's here.

The potted version is as follows: 1965, born in small town near Christchurch. Attended school until 16. 1981 joined merchant navy and moved to Southampton to study marine engineering. 1983 first trip to sea on an oil tanker. 1984 South Shields for a year to complete studies and then back to sea. 1987 Left the merchant navy and started working for Penny and Giles making black boxes for civil and miltary aviation. 1989 Moved to London to work for University College London in the department of physics and astronomy as a technician. Part time study led to a masters degree in computer science and I soon took became the sysadmin at the University of London Observatory.

Met Helen on a battlefield in 1993, 2 years later we were married at Bromley Parish Church :) After 13 years in London I spotted an ad for a job in America that looked interesting and something more of a challenge and here I am living in Green Bank, West Virginia, working for The National Radio Astronomy Obsevatory.
